Overview
The increased development and frequent use of information technologies at work and in the home has resulted in a growth of business and personal data being more widely distributed and available to the public. The internet in particular has contributed to the ease with which data is transmitted and disseminated around national and global computer networks. This information is highly valuable and needs to be protected. Increased legislation, primarily the Data Protection Act 1998 has assisted in regulating and controlling the processing of and access to public information.
