To raise the individual's level of safety and expertise to the highest possible standard by:

  • Developing concentration, observation and planning
  • Focussing on risks associated with day to day occupational driving
  • Gaining a thorough understanding of hazard perception and improving risk awareness
  • Providing safe strategies to overcome the problems associated with low speed manoeuvres whilst parking or driving in confined spaces
  • Developing confidence in the vehicle and their ability to control it through techniques taught throughout the course

  • Addressing areas of individual concern, as defined by the driver/company
  • Introducing them to the importance of fuel efficient driving (eco-driving)

Course Content

Safety Checks - this includes a vehicle, licence and eyesight check.

On Road Training - this will include:

  1. A short drive by the delegate to assess their skills
  2. A demonstration/commentary drive by the trainer (subject to insurance requirements being met)
  3. A practical coaching session designed to; develop the delegate's expertise in defensive driving, encourage forward planning against hazards in every day driving and develop an understanding of fuel efficient driving, it's importance in relation to work place driving and how to put this into practice. Training will take place on a variation of roads from urban to rural and motorways (subject to the geographical location of the training).

Confined Space Manoeuvring - trainer and delegate will discuss the problems associated with parking and manoeuvring within confined spaces and provide solutions to prevent low speed collisions and being hit whilst parked. Practical exercises will take place to demonstrate parallel parking and bay parking.

Conclusion & Debrief

The trainer will complete the a Driver Risk Assessment form highlighting areas covered in training, an assessment of the initial and final drive and a summary of the key learning points that they wish to adopt into their driving style in future.

A certificate of competence will be awarded according to the delegate's standard of driving.

Trainers

All of our highly qualified trainers are Driving Standards Agency (DSA) registered Approved Driving Instructors (ADI's) with a minimum Grading of 5. They also hold a licence to appear on the Fleet Training Register, which again is approved by the DSA.

Training Ratio

Delegate/trainer "on road" training will be provided on a 1:1 or 2:1 basis.

Location

To cause the minimum amount of disruption to your business, training should take place at your premises in an area suitable for delivering a presentation and de-brief, (alternative arrangements can be made if this is not available). To provide consistency, reduce nerves and to provide a comfortable learning environment, clients' own vehicles are used for the "on road" training sessions.

Who Should Attend?

Requirements

  • The client must provide a suitable, roadworthy and fully insured vehicle per 2 delegates
  • In cases where training is to take place in a non-company vehicle (eg. private car or one not registered to the delegate/company) evidence must be provided that the vehicle is insured for business use (ie. insurance certificate or letter from the insurer)
  • Delegates must hold a valid, current licence for the vehicle being driven, which must be shown to the trainer during the safety check
  • Delegates must be made aware before training commences of their responsibility to ensure the safety of themselves and other road users. It must be stressed that whatever occurs during training and whatever the trainer may say, it is the delegate's responsibility as a driver not to do anything which may be deemed to be unsafe
