College Leadership and Change Management Development Programme
Overview
The cultural change required to move Colleges away from the reliance on public funding to a more commercial approach will require constant reinforcement from Colleges management to achieve it. This will involve a greater focus on sales and marketing, involving all staff as ambassadors of the College, selling the College brand within their personal networks. This can only be achieved by engaging them in the business plan of the College, and so the College managers throughout the organisation will need to skills to achieve this.
It is vital for the future of the College that this cultural change is successful, and takes place quickly given the timescales the College is working towards, with "Commercial" courses beginning in each academic year. Their success is vital for the future of the College.
Most Colleges have a number of management positions filled by employees new to this type of role, largely recruited to internally, with the employees having worked in non management posts within the College prior to their promotion. This tends to lead in some cases to a lack of understanding of the day to day role of staff management, and a consequent reduced level of engagement towards management responsibilities.

This programme is aimed at all levels of management within a College to ensure the effective implementation of change and leadership in the organisation.
Key Learning Outcomes
Development is split into two key areas.
- Core people management skills - two day course aimed at all College managers (academic and support - pricing based on upto 20 individuals spread over two sets of two days) and will include tailored training covering Basic skills in areas of staff motivation, effective communication, and management of conduct and performance issues, in order to provide a consistent management framework within the College. In addition, techniques for influencing cultural change within their department, and ensuring understanding of the day to day role of managers.
- Effective Leadership and Management - aimed at all Heads of Department (pricing base on upto 12 individuals) - Providing Heads of Department with the skills to project leadership stature in their department, generating inspiration and respect among their staff. Also, more in depth consideration of cultural change and ways of influencing the organisation to adapt to its new business plan.
Breakdown of the days to includes:
- Half day diagnostic and two days design
- One day Leadership event for upto 12 individuals
- Two x two day Core Management skills training for upto 20 individuals (split into two groups)
