Are you a director or senior manager, either current or aspiring, who would like to learn more about finance in order to contribute more effectively and meaningfully to your organisation?  As a director, do you know you have the same level of responsibility for financial matters and decision making as your Finance Director? Would learning key financial skills in a non-financial role help you stand out from the crowd and earn you exciting promotional opportunities?

Then look no further than our 3 day Financial Development Programme which will fully equip you with all the financial information, skills and knowledge you need to achieve your goals. 

This 3 day course is taught by an energetic fully qualified accountant and commercially focused Finance Director who combines her extensive knowledge and experience of finance with a great passion for providing training and coaching which delivers results and builds confidence.

Timings: 9.30 am to 4.30 pm on each day.  The final day will finish earlier for smaller groups of delegates.

Booking confirmations: We will email you to confirm receipt of your booking within five working days. A confirmation invoice will be issued to either request payment by either BACS/cheque or confirmation of payment if you have made a card payment already through our World Pay Account.  Again this will be issued within five working days. Also detailed joining instructions are normally released by email at least seven working days prior to the date of the course.

Programme Details:

Day 1

Understanding & Interpreting Financial Statements


Key learning outcomes:

  • Introduction to the accounting framework, accounting principles & accounting standards
  • Distinguish between management accounts and the statutory financial reports of a company
  • Consider the vital importance of cash & cash forecasting in business survival & growth
  • Learn to understand and compile the primary financial statements:
    • Profit and loss account/income statement
    • Balance sheet
    • Cash flow statement
  • Analyse and interpret these financial statements
  • Evaluate and monitor the financial health and strength of the business using accepted financial ratios and other analysis tools (including spotting warning signs)
  • De-mystify finance & accounting jargon



Day 2

Budgeting, Planning & Forecasting


Key learning outcomes:

  • Discuss the purpose & uses of business plans, budgets & forecasts
  • Provide an overview of the business planning cycle
  • What to include in your business plan document
  • Ascertain the budgeting process
  • Compile your company & department budgets and forecasts
  • How to present & communicate your business plan and budget
  • Monitoring performance against plan including KPIs
  • Identifying corrective action to stay on track



Day 3

Using Finance for Business Growth & Development


Key learning outcomes:

  • Develop project appraisal techniques
  • Appraise and interpret the key components of capital investment projects
  • Why businesses need funding – raising short, medium & long term finance
  • Differentiate between the various sources of finance available to a company and their relative advantages and disadvantages
  • Discover how companies are valued
  • Discuss what robust financial management & control looks like and what investors & auditors will expect to see
  • Determine what to expect from your Finance Director and finance function
